Designed as a prerequisite to our acting classes, this course introduces the student to the basics of
acting. Students are taught to express their emotions and to communicate by using their bodies,
gestures and facial expressions through the art of pantomime. After pantomime, we devote
considerable time to improvisation. Here we learn to listen and react to spontaneous situations.

Prerequisite - 1 semester of Pantomime/Improv or permission of the Director.
This class introduces the student to stage direction, body positions, beginning theatre vocabulary
and games that help the actor experience early characterization. Students learn to art of
relaxation as applies to acting. More experience with improvisation is worked on in preparation
for an in classroom presentation to be given the last week of the quarter for family and friends.
Prerequisite - 1 semester of Beginning Acting I or permission of the Director. Students study entrances and exits, how to sit, stand and cross the stage. This class introduces
monologues as well as detailed scene work. Once again, various theatre games are played to help
students better understand characterization. Throughout the quarter, students will be preparing
for a final presentation.
Prerequisite -Beginning Acting and/or permission of the Director.
Students develop skills further by applying them to more involved pieces of work. They are
introduced to various types of acting styles and types of plays written. The student learns to
develop a character more fully by researching that character’s strengths and weaknesses. Using
these skills, the student will strive for more detail in their on stage performances. A final in-class
presentation is given for the parents at the end of each semester. Advancement determined
by Director.
Prerequisite - Intermediate Acting and permission of the Director.
This class is designed for the advanced student who is between the ages of 11 and 13 years.
Students are introduced to theatre history, aspects of play directing, dialects and more dramatic
pieces. Terminology with regard to the parts of the stage and house are learned. Students prepare
a final presentation for the last week of the quarter. Advancement determined by Director.
The final level of our youth program is multilayerd, therefore, a student can continue taking
this class as the curriculum changes each semester, thus taking the student into more intricate
scene study and concepts. It is at this level that students take one semester of the directing class
with permission from the Drama Director. Students take one semester of directing class and then
direct a short one-act the following semester. Beginning Acting students and up are eligible to
audition for the student directors. Final presentation will follow for family and friends.
